Shakeology Ingredients – Super Protein Blend

In my previous post Shakeology Ingredients I discussed, in summary, all the healthy things that go into Shakeology to make it the Healthiest Meal of the Day.  Let’s go a little deeper and look at each group of ingredients.  In this installment let’s look at Shakeology Ingredients – Super Protein Blend.  Just in case you didn’t remember, the Super Protein blend consisted of these ingredients:

Whey, Sacha Inchi, Chia, Flax, Quinoa, Amaranth, Brown Rice, Peas.

The main purpose of this Super Protein Blend is that it helps build lean muscle, improves skin and hair, supports mental clarity, and reduces cravings.  Where do these proteins come from and how are they processed in the best possible manner to ensure that they are the most bio-available, or how well the body can use them.

Shakeology Ingredients Super Protein BlendShakeology Ingredients – Super Protein Blend: Whey Protein

Whey protein is derived from cows milk.  Beachbody uses whey protein isolate in its Shakeology Ingredients – Super Protein Blend instead of whey protein concentrate.  Whey protein isolate is the purest, most concentrated form of whey protein available.Shakeology Super Protein BlendThe Shakeology whey isolate is extracted using a cold-processing method called ion-exchange, avoiding high heat, leaving it 90% protein and virtually fat and lactose-free. Great care is taken during the extraction process not to ‘denature’ the protein in Shakeology.

The low amount of lactose in whey protein isolate makes it an exceptional choice for individuals with lactose intolerance or who experience bloating and other problems associated with whey protein concentrate.  Isabelle Daikeler, co creator of Shakeology is a great example of someone who cannot ingest Whey Concentrate on a regular basis because she is allergic to dairy (protein & all). She suffered from intense bloating, gas and nausea.

Even with the enzymes and vitamins present in the fat and environment of whey concentrate, she still has no luck in her ability to process it.  She has used whey protein isolate in her diet on a regular basis, through Shakeology for years now, has not only had no adverse reaction, but the whey isolate has satisfied her protein requirements in an otherwise complete vegan lifestyle.

The whey used in Shakeology is a complete protein containing all essential amino acids exclusively in the more natural L-form (not D-form). Additionally, all of the 3 branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) including Leucine are present in Shakeology at high levels.  All Beachbody nutrition products are 3rd party tested to ensure they are free of rancidity, toxins, hormones and all of the other things most people fear from dairy products.

Shahakeology Ingredients - Super Protein Blend

Sacha Inchi is grown throughout Latin America.  The Sacha Inchi used in Shakeology Ingredients Super Protein Blend is grown in the St. Martin Region of Peru what the climate and soil yield the maximum nutrients in the fruit.  The Sacha Inchi grown here is purely organic, no pesticides or manufactured fertilizers are used in the process..It is also known as the Inca peanut.  Sacha Inchi is a plant that produces a star-shaped green fruit which contains edible seeds. The leaves of the plant, the seeds and oil have been consumed for thousands of years by Indians living in the Peruvian Amazon and in surrounding areas. The seeds are extremely rich in digestible protein, approximately 25% protein, and very high in healthy omega fatty acids 3 , 6, and 9 , six times more than olive oil.  These omega fatty acids promote better memory, enhance mood, and promote a healthy immune system.  Because of the high protein, high concentration of omega’s, and the fiber content, Sacha Inchi acts as a strong appetite suppressant.  In addition they contain high amounts of minerals like calcium and magnesium.

Shakeology Ingredients – Super Protein Blend: Chia Seed Meal (Salvia hispanica)

Yes this is the same chia as the Chia Pet.  Known as the running food, it’s used as a high Shakeology Ingredients Super Protein Blendenergy endurance food and has been recorded as far back as the ancient Aztecs.  The actual word “chia” comes from an Aztec word meaning “chian” which translates as oily.  They are now grown commercially in Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, Guatemala, and Mexico.  Chia seed found in Shakeology is a balanced blend of protein, carbohydrates, fats, and fiber. By weight, chia seeds contain 23% protein.  This seed has about 3-10 times the oil concentrations of most grains and one and a half to two times the protein concentrations of other grains.  It is said that 1 tablespoon of Chia seed can sustain a person for 24 hours. Athletes have reported that Chia seeds help them perform at optimal levels for much longer periods of the time.  Chia seeds can absorb 10 times their weight in water, helping you to feel more full, and cutting down food cravings.  They area the richest source of plant-based Omega-3 fatty acid. In fact they contain more Omega-3 than salmon.  They are excellent for improving insulin resistance since they slow down the conversion carbs into simple sugars.  They reduce inflammation which helps lower you cholesterol, helps with arthritis, and heart disease. Chis seeds are very high in antioxidants and also contain Calcium, and Boron which helps in the body’s assimilation of Calcium.

Shakeology Ingredients – Super Protein Blend: Flax Seed Meal (Linum usitatissimum)

Flax seed or linseed has been in the human diet throughout the world for thousands of years.  The Babylonians cultivated Shakeology Ingredients Super Protein Blendflax seed as early as 3,000 B.C., and millennia later, in 650 B.C., Hippocrates used flax seed for the relief of intestinal discomfort. Flax seed was so important for the health of his subjects that the 8th century king, Charlemagne, passed laws and regulations governing its consumption.  Flax seed is considered a complete protein source, meaning that it contains every amino acid that your body can’t make on its own, something very uncommon in plant foods. Just one tablespoon of flax seed contains 1.6 grams of protein.  Flax seed is high in Omega 3 fatty acids and amino acids.  These act as a natural anti-inflammatory agent which naturally lowers cholesterol and plaque forming in the arteries (from small particle LDL).  Flax seed also contains lignans which slightly help to improve blood sugar in those with both Type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance.

Shakeology Ingredients – Super Protein Blend: Quinoa (Chenopodium sp.)

Shakeology Ingredients Super Protein BlendPronounced (keen-wah), the Incas revered quinoa as such an important staple food, that they referred to as “Chisiya Mama” or “Mother Grain” in their native language. Shakeology Ingredients – Super Protein Blend: Amaranth (Amaranthus sp.)

Amaranth is a hardy plant that grows in the harshest environments (a weed).  It was used by the ancient Aztecs in their religious ceremonies until the Spanish conquerors banned it’s cultivation, and it remained unknown about for its nutritional value until it’s rediscovery in the 1970s.  It is a great source of carbs, fat and protein, ans well as fiber.  Shakeology Ingredients Super Protein Blend

The grain has 12 to 17% protein by weight, and is high in lysine, an essential amino acid.  Its mineral content includes: iron, magnesium, phosphorus, maganese, copper, selenium, calcium potassium and zinc.  It contains vitamins B6, C, E, folate, thiamin, niacin, and pantothenic acid.

These protein sources also add fiber to the blend which aids in digestion, helps you to feel full longer and reduces cholesterol.

All of these protein sources help to complete Shakeology Ingredients Super Protein Blend.  The different sources of protein help balance the amino acid content, help to reduce cravings, build muscle and increase health over all.  As you can see, and will continue to see Shakeology in Nature in a Bag.

Shakeology has helped many reach their fitness goals and maintain a healthy lifestyle.  If you’re not a big veggie eater, then this is PERFECT for you.  I personally use it everyday, my favorite is the Chocolate.  It tastes like a thick dark chocolate smoothie.  The Shakeology Ingredients alone should be enough to get you to try it, but to make it easy on you, Beachbody has a 30 Day Bottom of the Bag Guarantee.  Try it for 30 days, and if you hate it, return just the empty bag for a refund.  I also recommend the Autoship Plan, or Home Direct (HD).  Shakeology HD will save you about $15 on shipping, since Beachbody waives the shipping on all HD orders.  With HD shipping you also get free workout videos and a free shaker cup on your second month’s order.  Even if you only get it for one month, I would still recommend getting HD.  If you don’t like Shakeology, all you have to do is email or call Beachbody, and cancel, but you have just saved some money.

You never know you may try it an love it.  I would give it a full month’s try though.  It tastes great, but that doesn’t begin to compare with how it will make you feel.

Thanks for dropping by!  I hope you found this post informative.

Be Fit and God Bless!

I didn’t quite understand your comment, but in reading the article on the link you posted, the main take-away I got was to make sure that any supplement you take includes the amino acid Leucine to enhance protein sysnthesis following exercise since the body does not produce it on it’s own. Shakeology does indeed contain the amino acid leucine. In fact, Chocolate Shakeology has 2069 mg of leucine in every serving. Great article that you posted.

Thanks Jerrold. I created the website myself, but I needed help to do it. I signed up for an online course to not only help me step by step to create the site, but also how to make it more visible, and keep the spammers from choking it up.
