Obesity is very common in America, and is often associated with a group of health problems collectively known as Metabolic Syndrome. Insulin resistance is a key component of this syndrome.  For those of us that have insulin resistance, or pre-diabetes as it’s otherwise known, losing weight to get fit is a hard task.  You have to be diligent and stick to your eating regime to see long-term results.  Sometimes though, we get those long weekend getaway trips, where we decide to just forsake the routine and live it up, or maybe we decide to stick to the regime for five days and treat ourselves on the weekend. During football season this is an easy trap to fall into, the tailgating at games, the parties for Super Bowl Sunday. What could it hurt, right?  We’ll go back to eating healthy on Monday. You may want to rethink that idea.  According to a recent study publish in Science Transitional Medicine, eating large amounts of high calorie food can cause changes to your metabolism that lead to a state of insulin resistance, which over time sets the body up to be more likely to develop Type 2 Diabetes. Get this, those changes can occur in as little as 2 DAYS!

My Fitness Journey

In fitness, as in life, we gain more, not from having reached the destination, but from the journey to get there.  If you’ve read the “About Me” Section of this blog, you’ve read about parts of my journey.  I let myself go over the years, but it wasn’t just laziness on my part, it was also a lack of understanding of my own body.  To give you a little history of my weight problem, lets back up to the days before P90X and Beachbody.  I used to workout regularly, but my nutrition sucked, so that soon after I would experience some progress in getting back in shape, I would soon hit a plateau and then get discouraged, and soon quit trying.  The weight would go back up and with some extra pounds.  The weight slowly over time creeped higher and higher, I would come home from work in the afternoons and just sit on the couch from doing no physical activity.  I would catch myself dozing off at traffic lights, it was really getting bad.

I loved P90X, it was the program I had the most success with, but after 4 rounds, I was ready for some variety.  I did a round of Insanity, but I’m not a pure cardio kind of guy.  I really like the strength building aspects of resistance training.  Now along comes P90X2.  THIS is what I’ve been waiting for!  Tony Horton and the kids have reTommy Doran and Tony Hortonturned with an all new workout X-style.  Tony’s a great guy.  I got the opportunity to meet him in Las Vegas in June of 2012.  When I showed him my before-and-after shots and told him that he and P90X had helped me to lose 80 pounds, not only did he congratulate me, but he yelled it out to a ballroom full of other Beachbody Coaches.  What a guy.

If your bringing it with P90X and not eating right, you’re wasting your time.  I am always asked by those using P90X to help them figure out why they only getting limited results, even though they are working out as hard as they can, or why they have no energy to complete their daily workout.  The first thing I ask them is “Are you following the nutrition plan?”  This is always followed by an awkward silent moment, then the confession that they did not even open the guide to read it.

P90X was the program I started with,  and it has brought me great success in getting to my fitness goals.  I see so many people getting the program and immediately start popping the DVD’s into the player and hitting it hard quitting after a month because they aren’t getting the results they hoped for, BUT they didin’t bother to read any of the materials that came with itThis is an extreme program that gives extreme results. Period.  However, you will only get those extreme results if you follow the program as it’s laid out and you do ALL 90 days!

WOW!Tommy Doran  I am SOO excited because I FINALLY finished setting up my blog, but that means I’ve only begun.  When you look at some one’s blog, you think, “That doesn’t look so hard to do,”  WRONG!  There are so many things that go into creating a blog that I was not even aware of.  I won’t bore you with the details. (If you want to learn how to create a blog that will get noticed by the search engines and spread your message go HERE).  This blog is not totally complete, and will always change as the need arises, so stay tuned.
